Is it safe to travel to Greece?

Greece is a very safe country to travel to. Minor incidents might take place at big citys like Athens and Thessaloniki at late hours, like any other part of the world, so one must apply the basic precaution measures. Generaly tourists are unlikely to experience any crime or violence, and your trip should go smoothly.

Is traveling to Greece expensive?

Prices are much lower or similar with the other European countries. It's a good practice to avoid tourist traps, an prefer places that locals eat like tavernas and psistaries (places wit bbq food, souvlaki, gyros). I always rent appartements rather than hotel rooms that are bigger, cheaper and have a kitchen. Visit off-season were the prices are lower. August is the most expensive month to visit Greece, and the temperature is quite high then. So i recoment the visit from May to June were prices are still low. Greece's ferries can get quite expensive if you are visiting the islands especially on peak season, so travelling in the mailand comes much cheaper.

Do you need a visa to travel to Greece?

Greece is a party to the Schengen Agreement so U.S. citizens may enter Greece without a visa (up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes). For entry into Greece, your passport should have at least six months of remaining validity.

Can you drink tap water in Greece?

It's perfectly safe to drink water from the tap in the mainland and big citys like Athens and Thessaloniki. Generally in most of the Greek Islands like Mykonos and Santorini you cannot drink water from the tap and must buy bottled water which is fairly cheap.

Are mosquitoes dangerous in Greece?

Mosquitoes can be an annoying problem, though there is no danger of contracting malaria.

Is food expensive in Greece?

Cheap street food will cost you under 5 EUR.A cheap meal at a Psistaria (bbq food place) will be closer to 10 EUR. A casual meal at a nice restaurant will cost around 20 - 30 EUR.

Can I use my debit card in Greece?

Debit and credit cards are widely accepted in Greece. it's still a good idea to have some euros on hand.

Are the Acropolis and the Parthenon the same thing?

Acropolis means “top of the city” so it's the rocky hill in the centre of Athens. The Parthenon is the famous Ancient Greek temple on the top of Acropolis hill, once dedicated to goddess Athena Parthenos (Athena the Virgin).

Is English spoken in Greece?

The most common foreign languages learned by Greeks are English, German, French. So many people especially the young ones speak quite good the English language.

Are the Greek Islands expensive?

Some of the more famous islands like Mykonos and Santorini are the most expensive spots in Greece. There are cheaper places to stay elsewhere in the Cyclades, on isles such as Naxos, Paros and Amorgos.

What coffee should i drink in Greece ?

The most traditional is of course the Greek coffee that is hot and comes in a small cup. In the summer Greeks drink frappes, a cold Nescafe that is topped with foamed milk and sugar. Another popular coffe in the Summer is the Fredo Cappuccino, which is espresso poured over ice then topped with cold-foamed milk. A frappe at a good takeaway price should cost €1 and a Fredo Cappuccino €1,50.
